AUGUSTA WELCOMES MANSOUR'S DEPARTMENT STORE

With a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 3, Augusta welcomed the area's newest department store, Mansour's, located in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center.

The 60,000 square foot facility is the fifth location for the La Grange, Georgia- based family enterprise, and the largest store to date. Mansour's caters to a diverse range of fashion-conscious customers, providing quality designer and store brands to suit a variety of styles and budgets. Founded in 1917 on a commitment to customer service, dedication to employees, and giving back to the community, these principals have guided the business through three generations of Mansour family members.

"We are so excited to be in Augusta. The people here have been so welcoming. We want to become an integral part of the Augusta family," said Fred Mansour, CEO.

The CSRA Leadership Group, a contingency of leaders from both sides of the Savannah River who are working together to improve our community, made a successful trip to Washington, D.C. During meetings with departmental and congressional leaders, the group lobbied for support on issues that are important to our two state region including Interstate 520, Augusta Regional Airport, New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam, Fort Gordon, Water Quality in the Savannah River and the Savannah River Site. While gaining support for some of the issues has been an ongoing process for years, others were new to this trip.

On the first day the group visited with the Department of Energy, Representative Charlie Norwood (GA), Rep Lindsay Graham (SC) and top staff of Representative Floyd Spence (SC). The following day the group meet with the staffs of Senators Max Cleland (GA), Fritz Hollings (SC) and Strom Thurmond (SC), along with Senator Zell Miller (GA). At each stop the group emphasized the importance of various issues to the local community. In addition, Representatives Norwood and Graham attended a dinner hosted by Westinghouse Savannah River Company.

Members of the CSRA Leadership Group who participated in the fall trip were Mayor Bob Young, Comm (is this an abbreviation for Commissioner or Commander? Should be spelled out) Frank Spears, Robert Osborne, Julian Osbon, Former Mayor Tom Green of North Augusta, Jerry Hardin, Ernie Chaput and Fred Humes along with Scott MacGregor and Jim West of the Augusta Metro Chamber.
